Water For People and AECOM celebrate 10-year partnership

14 Jun 2018

LOS ANGELES (June 14, 2018) – Water For People, an international nonprofit working to provide lasting quality water and sanitation services, celebrates its 10-year partnership with AECOM, a premier, fully integrated global infrastructure firm. For 10 years, the partnership has promoted the development of safe drinking water and reliable sanitation services accessible to Everyone Forever in specific districts in the nine countries where Water For People works.

Over the past decade, AECOM employees invested US$1 million in improved water and sanitation projects around the world, through direct contributions, fundraising activities and volunteerism. This investment has created US$5 million in economic productivity and has provided local communities with approximately 3.6 million gallons of water, which is equivalent to 6.6 million days’ worth of drinking water*.

“AECOM’s support of Water For People over the last 10 years has enabled us to improve the quality of life for more than 18,000 people by building new water distribution systems. In addition, we help ensure the systems continue to operate for future generations by working with local governments to develop the governance structures and water service providers too,” said Eleanor Allen, Water For People’s chief executive officer. “AECOM’s partnership goes back to our founding 27 years ago. Numerous employees have volunteered with Water For People over the years and continue to support us today. Thank you, AECOM!”

Water For People helps local governments, communities and businesses develop long-term water solutions. Together they plan, design, and build the infrastructure and create a sustainable long-term service delivery model for operation and maintenance of the water and sanitation systems. Through programs across nine countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia, Water For People works toward achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal #6 of ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all, by 2030.

“We are proud to support communities in need through our global partnership with Water For People, working together to ensure sustainable access to clean water and safe sanitation systems,” said Brendan Ranson-Walsh, AECOM’s vice president of external communications and corporate responsibility. “AECOM’s purpose is to deliver a better world, and we are taking action by opening doors, creating opportunity and protecting tomorrow. Through our Blueprint for a Better World corporate responsibility program, we are bolstering our employees’ dedication and commitment to making a positive impact.”
