Planned Giving

Safe Water Guardians are extraordinary individuals who have embraced Water For People’s vision and have pledged an invaluable gift that reflects their long-term commitment to safe water and sanitation. Guardians have provided for Water For People’s future through planned giving.

We know water changes everything. Sustained access to quality drinking water and sanitation services improves health and education and drives economic productivity. But for us, it’s not just about building wells, installing toilets, and setting up pumps. The ultimate measure of Water For People’s unique model, Everyone Forever, is sustainability. Because we work alongside communities and partners to identify the best solutions, facilitate local investment, and monitor water and sanitation systems over time, we ensure that your gift has a lasting impact.

Planned Gifts

A gift through your estate plan can be a bequest in your will, a distribution from your revocable trust, or a beneficiary designation of specific assets such as a retirement plan or a life insurance policy. These gifts are revocable and can be altered as your financial situation changes. All planned gifts qualify you for Safe Water Guardian Society membership.

“Many of us want to leave our mark on the world in some positive way. We believe that Water For People is the route to doing just that. As a result of their work, not only do people have access to safe water and sanitation forever, but lives are saved, children learn to read, and women have a more valued place in their communities. As Safe Water Guardians, we have the flexibility to ensure that our own family’s needs will be met, while supporting the needs of so many other families across the globe.”

Types of Planned Gifts

Sample Language for a Specific or Percentage Bequest:

“I give, bequeath, and devise [dollar amount/description of asset or X percentage] of my estate to Water For People, a qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, located at 100 E. Tennessee Ave., Denver, CO 80209, to be used for its general purposes.”

Samples Language for a Residuary Bequest:

“I give, bequeath, and devise [all or X percentage] of the rest, residue, and remainder of property, both real and personal, wherever situated, which I may own or be entitled to at my death, to Water For People, a qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, located at 100 E. Tennessee Ave., Denver, CO 80209, to be used for its general purposes.”

Life insurance policy and retirement asset gifts are other means to ensure that your commitment to the mission of Water For People is being supported beyond your lifetime. Please work with your financial or estate planning advisor to name Water For People as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy, IRA, 401(k), or other retirement plan.

A life-income gift is irrevocable and enables you to make a long-lasting, potentially tax-deductible contribution to Water For People while providing yourself with income for life. Water For People accepts the following life-income gift:

Charitable Remainder Trust:

A trust that provides for a specified distribution, at least annually, to at least one non-charitable income recipient for a period specified in the trust instrument, with the remainder interest paid to at least one charitable beneficiary. A charitable remainder trust should be set up by you with the help of your estate planning attorney

All planned gifts other than cash or readily marketable securities are subject to further review to ensure they are made in accordance with Water For People’s gift acceptance policies. Water For People is happy to discuss all planned giving opportunities with you. Please call us anytime.

Our site is meant to function in the latest versions of the major browsers, both on the desktop and mobile operating systems. Internet Explorer versions 9 and older are not supported by this site. To see this site in its intended state, we recommend choosing another browser (such as Chrome).

The last version of Internet Explorer was version 11. Now Microsoft is pushing 'Edge'. Older versions of IE aren't even supported by Microsoft anymore. This article is a bit dated, but is a quick read and helps to explain why you really should upgrade: Please Upgrade Your Browser. Essentially, dated browsers are a huge risk for the user.

Alternatively, if you don't feel like upgrading your browser, you can also use our full site on your phone.

Why Don't We Fix Our Site for X Browser?

Essentially, Water For People is a non-profit and we would rather spend money on our causes instead of the very significant amount of money that it would cost us to design and maintain a website that works for legacy, unsupported browsers.
